The Newhaven Library is my project from the second semester of my second year. The Newhaven Library is located in Newhaven on the southern coast of England near Brighton.
The Newhaven Library was built with the intention of becoming a community hub for people of all ages. This symbiotic programme proposes to take this idea further by enhancing certain features of the library. Storytelling is at heart of the library. Storytelling is our way of passing on knowledge and we tell our selves stories about the things we learn. Storytelling is a powerful tool for creating memories because if we create an engaging relatable story we will also create a strong emotional link with the content. When we create an emotional link the memory becomes more visual and therefore easier to apply into practice.
Young children often learn skills through storytelling because it is easier to engage them on a level of fantasy. How do we educate future generations about vital skills like woodwork or planting or the sole importance of learning new things? This hub is proposing to connect generations and engage them in teaching and learning new skills through storytelling.
